Lenovo Plans to Be First Windows 8 Tablet

Windows 8 isn't going to be ready until fall, but hardware makers are not waiting for it to come out. They're already fighting to be first in line to build the hardware for Microsoft's new OS. 

Lenovo is planning to be the “first to market” with a Windows 8 tablet, The Verge reports.

According to a source, Lenovo is planning to be ready to ship the device in October and that it will have an Intel chip it in. There aren't any other details to the machine just yet, except that it'll be a 1. tablet, 2. running intel chip, 3. Windows 8. Could it be the IdeaPad Yoga?

Lenovo showed it off at CES earlier this year and it got a lot of attention because of its unusual form. Its a laptop with a keyboard that can fold to transform into a tablet. 

Everyone's rushing into the tablet game, now more so than ever. Michael Dell said that Dell would be offering a tablet when Windows 8 launches, and Nokia themselves confirmed that they are working on a tablet as well. HP and Asus are also reportedly working on a Windows 8 tablet too. 

The key difference among Windows 8 tablets will be whether or not they're based on the traditional PC chip or one that uses the ARM architecture. 

ARM-based Windows devices are going to be “end-to-end” devices (meaning Windows would come fully integrated) and have a few special features, like an ultra-low-power mode. The unfortunate part of this is that most legacy apps won't work on them.
