The Panasonic Toughbook CF-53 is a new member of the family of 3rd Generation Intel Core “Ivy Bridge”-powered laptops. The 14-inch CF-53 is the first known ruggedized Ivy Bridge notebook and the updated CF-53JALBY1M model we spotted on a couple of online retailers includes the i5-3220 dual-core chip. Details are thin, but the product pages say it has 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive, “HD” display resolution, and Intel vPro system management technology.
The CF-53, released last year, is defined as a “semi-rugged” or “business-rugged” laptop, meaning that it can survive drops from a height of up to 30 inches. It has a spill-resistant keyboard, sealed ports, and shock-mounted data storage. The notebook is also available with a touchscreen display.
Panasonic’s CF-53JALBY1M is priced at about $2,100.
